Enermax Revolution D.F. X 1200W, ATX 3.0

The Enermax EVOLUTION D.F. X 1200 W is overall quite an appealing product. It really delivers a lot of quality power output considering the price. To begin with, the efficiency numbers for an 80 Plus Gold unit are great, even at high ambient temperatures with superb sub-5% load efficiency. While we're not quite at Platinum levels yet, the results are very respectable. The high efficiency also comes in handy with minimizing the cooling requirements for the PSU. While the passive mode does not expand past the 20% load marker, up until the 70% mark the fan remains fairly quiet. Beyond this level the PSU becomes significantly more audible as the fan curve rises quite sharply. Overall this is not something out of the ordinary. This is a trend we see with quite a lot of more powerful PSUs above 1000 W that do not have the very highest efficiency levels of Platinum or Titanium levels, which means they have to dissipate over 100 W of heat at such load levels. The fairly small form factor and a 1200 W power output ensures that the REVOLUTION D.F. X can definitely be recommended for a smaller yet power-hungry build. The addition of controlled RGB lighting can also bring some bonus points to some potential customers. I like that Enermax lets you adjust the pattern, and there's also an "off" mode. Thanks to an included ARGB cable, you are able to synchronize the light show with your motherboard, or any other RGB component. While the unit does seem to use quality components, the soldering quality and the consistency of trimming the ends of through-hole components could be better. This, however, should not discourage prospective buyers from acquiring the unit, especially when the PSU is backed by a 10-year warranty. With its features, price and performance the REVOLUTION D.F.X 1200 W is very easy to recommend.
