Wild Hearts (Download) (PC)

Very rarely, a video game will come along and absolutely blow my mind. Wild Hearts did just this, as I took the opportunity to dive straight into it after having previously struggled with Monster Hunter.

Wild Hearts may seem similar to Monster Hunter and other hunting genre games, but its focus on constructing gadgets in a world steeped in Japanese folklore and feudal-era Japan help it carve its own identity.

Wild Hearts latches onto the familiar gameplay loop of Monster Hunter and infuses it with a fast-paced crafting system that lets you build your way to victory.

I assume that most game mechanics are hard to copyright. What would the world have been like if Nintendo had trademarked jumping on enemies’ heads? Or if Namco got paid every time a character ate in games thanks to Pac-man’s prodigious appetite?
