The latest drive to join Samsung's family of SSDs is the SSD990 EVO Plus, a Gen 4 x4 drive with a DRAM-less design that can also run at Gen 5.0 x2 speeds.

Samsung has taken an interesting approach to PCIe Gen5 when it comes to storage. Their first Gen 5 offering was the 990 Evo, which did not really challenge the high-end Phison-based Gen5 drives already out, instead it was a more mainstream DRAMless drive. What was interesting about it, is that it only had 2 lanes of PCIe Gen 5, which is essentially the same as 4 lanes of PCIe Gen4. The new Samsung 990 Evo Plus is very much the same, still DRAMless and the same 2 Gen5 lanes. You are going to get better performance than the original 990 Evo, but on top of that better efficiency. According to Samsung the 990 Evo Plus has 73% higher power efficiency. This is made possible by their 8th generation 232-layer TLC NAND and firmware optimizations. This also mitigates a lot of the heat issues associated with faster M.2 solid state drives. We are taking a look at the 2TB model here today which has sequential read speeds of 7250 MB/s and sequential write speeds of 6300 MB/s.

Samsung's 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD is certified TweakTown 15K elite for both Intel and AMD. Enough said!

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus is a great choice for the gamer or creative professional looking to boost the performance and storage capacity of their notebook or desktop computer. Designed and built entirely in-house, this DRAM-less SSD is powered by Samsung's "Piccolo" controller and is equipped with up to 4TB of the company's 8th-generation 236-layer TLC V-NAND flash. Combine this with Samsung's Intelligent TurboWrite 2.0 technology, NVMe's Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature and a hybrid PCIe 4.0 x4 / 5.0 x2 interface and you have a drive that is, in some cases, 45% faster than its predecessor, the 990 EVO. In our sequential read and write tests, the 2TB version of the 990 EVO Plus was able to read at speeds as high as 7,284 MB/s and write at speeds in excess of 5,800 MB/s. It also did very well in our random write tests, producing more than 317,000 IOPS at low queue depths.
hothardware.com: Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD Review: Power Efficient Speedy Storage (translate)

Samsung is launching its latest mainstream series of solid state drives today, the 990 EVO Plus. As has been tradition with Samsung, the company has fleshed out its 990-series of SSDs with Pro, EVO, and now EVO Plus models. Just like previous-gen drives, the 990 EVO Plus takes the EVO series and cranks things up a few notches, with more advanced NAND flash memory and tweaked and tuned firmware to optimize performance and power.
storagereview.com: Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD Review (translate)

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus SSD is the latest addition to the company’s well-known consumer lineup, packed with speed, power efficiency, and storage capacity enhancements. Building on the Samsung 990 EVO, it incorporates Samsung’s 8th-generation V-NAND and a 5nm in-house controller to boost both sequential and random read/write speeds while also offering better heat management and a more efficient power profile. For those needing larger storage capacities, the 990 EVO Plus offers configurations up to 4TB, providing ample space for demanding users.
