Rainbow Six: Extraction - Deluxe Edition (Xbox One/SX)

It’s perhaps not what Tom Clancy fans had envisioned for the series, but there’s something to Rainbow Six Extraction that's definitely worth checking out. It stands apart from similar co-op shooters thanks to that tactical edge and gunplay it's inherited from Siege. That said, the repetitive nature of running missions, difficulty spikes, and overall presentation hold the game back.

An approachable spin-off of a competitive multiplayer hit, this co-op shooter struggles to emerge from beneath its predecessor's shadow.

While I had some grievances with the Threat Levels for solo players and had wished for a few more objectives to bolster the current roster and help reduce the monotony of playing multiple Incursions in a single session, I kept finding –and continue to find– myself eagerly wanting to hop back on and earn level up my Operators a little bit more.

While it doesn’t execute fully with its foundation, it does take more risks than I expected, to the point where it’s going to be worth a look for some folks — but only just so.

Though the story is weak and the design of the game favors certain characters, Extraction is a good Rainbow Six game that rewards you and your team's ability to adapt to deliver a compelling gameplay loop.
