Über die günstigeren MSRP-Karten und dem damit einhergehenden Cost-Down schrieb ich ja bereits. Mit der GeForce RTX 4070 Verto 12GB versucht sich PNY gewissermaßen an der Quadratur des Kreises, indem man essentielle Dinge eben nicht einspart, sondern nur die eher unwichtigen. Mehr Spannungswandler, weniger Lüfter und statt einer massiven Kühler-Konstruktion eine clever stabilisierte Leichtbau-Umsetzung, die am Ende sauber das macht, was man von ihr erwartet. Ganz ohne Kompromisse geht das alles natürlich auch nicht, aber man hat den Sparzwang nicht zu Lasten der Haltbarkeit durchgedrückt. Da hatte PNY sicher noch im Hinterkopf, dass man ja auch NVIDIAs kommerzielle Grafikkartensparte herstellt und vermarktet, was einen gewissen Qualitätsanspruch voraussetzt. Ob, und wie das gelungen ist, lest ihr heute.

In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the PNY GeForce RTX 4070 12GB VERTO Dual Fan DLSS 3 – that’s a rather lengthy name and in order to make things easier for this article, we’ll call it the RTX 4070 12GB VERTO.

Averaged over the 25 games in our test suite, at 1440p resolution, the PNY card ends up a tiny 1% slower than the NVIDIA RTX 4070 Founders Edition. This is the case for all cards tested today, they are all running slightly lower clocks than the FE, despite all having the same base and boost clock rating, with the same power limit. Binning does play a role in the clocks the NVIDIA Boost algorithm selects, so maybe NVIDIA is putting the best GPUs on the FE, while other AICs reserve those for their factory-overclocked models. Either way, these differences are negligible in daily use, there's no way you'll be able to notice such a tiny difference.

Averaged over the 25 games in our test suite, at 1440p resolution, the PNY RTX 4070 XLR8 matches the NVIDIA RTX 4070 FE. While factory-overclocked RTX 4070s do gain a percent here and there, the differences are minimal. Compared to last generation's RTX 3070, the performance uplift is 28%—a relatively small gen-over-gen gain (RTX 4090: +64%, RTX 4080: +49%, RTX 4070 Ti: +44%). It is still a substantial improvement, especially when you consider other factors like DLSS 3 and efficiency. Compared to AMD's offerings, the RTX 4070 from MSI is slightly faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, and is close behind the RX 6900 XT. AMD hasn't released any Radeon RX 7000 graphics card competitive to the RTX 4070 yet, actually they haven't released any graphics card this year.

Performance-wise, while the RTX 4070 Verto Epic-X can be seen performing similarly to the RTX 3080 on some occasions but most of the time, it is on par with the Founders Edition model. Some users might argue that getting a used RTX 3080 is probably a better idea as it is way cheaper now, and I don’t 100% disagree with that. As they say, your money your choice, but if we look at the bigger picture, I still find the RTX 4070 the better choice when it comes to features and power efficiency.
