The new Viper Venom 32GB DDR6000 C36 kits do perform great at lower stock voltage versus the predecessor, while offering nice RGB effects when configured via the ASUS/Gigabyte/MSI/ASRock tools or the dedicated Viper RGB software. The modules are not very tall, with a height of about 4.3cm to help with compatibility when using large air coolers and are backed up by a limited lifetime warranty.

Patriot Viper Venom RGB is an exciting memory series. The stock performance is within the expected range (7400 MHz is an outstanding performer), and the Intel XMP 3.0 profile makes life easier (you also get the higher frequency XMP for the ROG motherboards). The relatively low-profile heat spreader (43 mm/1.69 inches), so you shouldn’t encounter clearance problems with more extensive air CPU coolers. Some headroom (tighter timings/more frequency) is still available, as we reached the 7800 MHz with CL38-46-46-115. 32 GB is becoming a standard even in gaming set-ups (for the DDR5 systems), also because of the introduction of the new RAM standard. The current price for the DDR5s is decreasing rapidly, thanks to the AM5 platform introduction. We want to give Patriot Viper Venom RGB the “Guru3D Approved” award for this kit as it’s (more than) fast enough out of the box. You get customizable RGB lighting. There are no color variants available; the radiator is black and silver. The temperature for such a high-frequency kit is very low, and the aluminum heat spreaders are effective. We didn't like the fact that the voltage wasn't 1.45 V as advertised, but 1.5 V. Why does the XMP differentiate so much, Patriot? The 7400 MHz on Amazon is only 119.99 USD, so it’s a good deal.

Patriot presented a new series of DDR5 memories in April; it’s the Viper Venom DDR5. Most kits come in 32 GB (2 x 16 GB), and their frequency is higher than the base 4800 MHz (5200-6400 MHz). We are checking the Patriot Viper Venom 6200 MHz CL40 DDR5 kit today. It’s the best model of the series. A quick reminder - DDR5 is the newest technology to hit the market, make headlines, and break world records. DDR5 already set spectacular results in overclocking (of course using the LN2), as 9560 MHz and even 10550 MHz. DDR4 RAMs operate on a single 64-bit bus, while DDR5 has two 32-bit buses (plus, in both cases, an additional 8-bit for ECC). As a result, a single module is identified as Dual Channel, while two are identified as Quad Channel. However, the solution itself does not match the throughput of HEDT platforms with processors with a four-channel controller. The internal (A / B) channels of DDR5 RAM also share the RCD (Register Clock Driver), which provides more output signals and more extended pulse reading (8 vs. 16). The DDR5 comes with a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) from the most important things you need to know. It’s responsible for controlling voltage changes, optimizing the energy draw, and making it less demanding for the motherboard controller. The DDR4 nominal voltage is 1.2 V; for the DDR5, it’s 1.1 V. Typical XMP voltage for the older type of memory is 1.35V (sometimes 1.45 V); now, it’s mostly 1.25 V. Speaking of the XMP, till now, it was 2.0 revision, with the introduction of the DDR5 we’ve got the rev 3.0. The main difference is that the number of profiles has increased from three to five (three for the manufacturer settings and two placeholders for the users).

If this kit is not for the casual user, who is left is the PC enthusiasts looking for a minor performance bump in competitive gaming or applications that utilize more bandwidth. It could also serve those who favor a system optimized in the big three—CPU, GPU, and memory—without reaching for a kit at the extreme of cost vs. performance. While higher frequency kits with lower timings do exist, they fall under the premium tier category and, as such, cost a bit more. The Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5-6200 memory kit has its share of features that are sure to attract those who enjoy the design, brand, XMP of 6200 MT/s, SK Hynix M-Die overclocking or all of the above. Just understand that it may simply come down to competitive pricing at the end of the day as nothing in particular sets this Patriot Viper Venom RGB memory kit apart from the norm outside of being binned and sold as a 6200 MT/s memory kit.

Like most of you, I’ve been used to seeing the Lexar brand in the SD and USB drive market and more recently SSDs as well. But seeing them move into the crowded memory market was a bit of a surprise. It does make sense though, they have managed to make a name in the flash market alongside countless other brands. I’m also glad that while getting into the memory market, they aren’t just going with a basic desktop-focused kit. They do have that as you can see with the second kit I tested today. But they are also eyeing the gaming market as well. The Hades kit that they sent over has a nice simple styling with its black heatspreaders and the RGB lightbar they have across the top is nice because it can be seen from both the top and the side. The top view of the lighting runs the full length of the stick as well. The lighting is bright enough and has control using either their software or any of the big name motherboard options which means you can tie it all in with your other lighting if you do that. The performance was solid, they aren’t offering anything too high-end, but the 3600 MHz kit isn’t a bad speed though I do hope they work on having options with better timings later as well.
