Lamptron Hardware Monitor

The HM70 FLIP is very compact on the desk, and you can easily carry it wherever you need it. We didn’t put it into the chassis (although Lamptron says it can be done), as although it’s “only” 7” format – it is still relatively big for most cases on the market. You can use the HM70 FLIP with devices other than a PC (e.g., as a secondary monitor in travel), and the USB cable provides enough power to the unit. It’s good that you don’t need a separate power supply because they always create more mess. Regarding the software side - the essential features are powered mainly by Aida64. The setup is intuitive and doesn’t take much effort to enable the monitoring screen. It might take some more time to adjust the display precisely to your needs, but luckily, some pre-made layouts are provided on the pen drive included in the package (and you can find many of them on the Aida64 forum). This makes it much easier to tweak which parameters you want to display. You’ll find everything you need in the bundle: HDMI and USB cables, a USB stick with Aida64, and a manual. What more would you want?

The Lamptron HX070 is at its core a 7" IPS panel with 1024x600 resolution running at 60 Hz. Lamptron has gone as far as figuring out an interface for it to utilize USB as power and HDMI for your video signal. Furthermore, Lamptron has built a steel enclosure for the screen and, in the case of the HX and HM series, the controller board as well.

You’re not limited to the PC, as you can use the HM101 also with other devices (e.g. as a secondary monitor in travel), and the USB cable provides enough power to the unit. Speaking of which, it’s good that you don’t need to have a separate power supply because they always create more mess.

The Lamptron HM070 Lift is a very unique 7" external display that really caters to a small niche of users. At around $320, it is certainly not cheap, even with the $20 value-add of AIDA64. In comparison, a 15.6" 1080P external screen from various brands sells for around $220–$250. With such options out there, if your need is just a secondary, portable screen, the HM070 Lift should not be your go to. With the HM070 Lift, you are paying a premium for that boutique, small display segment, and that it includes a motorized housing and remote controls. What you get for that money is ultimately exactly what you would expect if you are in the market for something like this. It is a compact, functional display that is backed by the well-known AIDA64 software bundled with it. And while not perfect, Lamptron does include a few templates to get you started. We would have liked to see more 1024x600 px templates, which are a bit cleaner, and a better, more automated setup experience, alongside functional documentation. But once you jump through these hoops, it works and does so well. This ultimately means the Lamptron HM070 is a a good fit for that niche of users who want something like the HX070, but with the fun of motorization.
