Kingdom Hearts 3 - Deluxe Edition (Xbox One/SX)

Kingdom Hearts III doesn’t go in the direction some RPG fans will no doubt have been hoping for. It’s unashamedly over the top in just about every way, from its barmy story and stunning presentation to its huge cinematic battles. There’s plenty of depth here too, though you’ll need to find your bearings first.

Kingdom Hearts III might not be the best final entry possible (and knowing this series, a "Final" mix of the "final game" is easily an option), but I'll dearly miss Sora and his friends. Despite all of the absurd twists and turns, the character missteps and the complete lack of some series-defining cast members, there are very few creations out there that make me smile this often.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is a fulfilling evolution and resolution of the franchise that shows it’s still full of heart.

What sticks with me is the exciting battle against elemental titans with Hercules, taking Rapunzel out into the unfamiliar wide world for the first time, snapping selfies with Winnie the Pooh, and going toe to toe with Davy Jones. In 2002, as Sora, I left Destiny Islands to travel across the universe and make new friends. In 2019 I brought old ones home, and I had so much fun doing it.

The latest entry isn’t afraid to go big, but it also doesn’t forget what made fans fall in love in the first place.
