Hitman 2 (Download) (PC)

Is it worth returning to Agent 47 with HITMAN 2? Personally I think it is. I do enjoy being methodical with games, so this design of searching and studying before acting is a lot of fun for me in particular. I think this game is a lot of fun and an aspect of its existence is to be a home for the Hitman content for years into the future.

Hitman 2 is a bit of a mixed bag on PC, at least from a performance standpoint. Some areas of the game can offer stellar performance and great visuals, while other locations can slow high-end PCs to a crawl, placing a bullet in between the eyes of anyone expecting to achieve constant 60+ FPS framerates at high resolutions/settings.

Overall performance is "demanding"—a GTX 1060 or RX 580 can't even get close to 60 FPS at 1080p. Especially AMD cards seem to be at a disadvantage at lower resolutions, possibly due to the removal of DirectX 12, which gave those cards a speed boost. What's interesting is that as you dial up the resolution, AMD cards gain quickly on their NVIDIA counterparts. Higher resolutions have similar requirements: a GTX 1070 Ti / 1080 / 2070 will give you a great 60 FPS gaming experience at 1440p, and for 4K, the RTX 2080 Ti should be your weapon of choice.

Hitman 2 takes what its predecessor did best and improves on it visually and mechanically. It's a cerebral game, a sandbox that can be bloodless or chaotic depending on who's pulling 47's strings. From its plot to its locations, Hitman 2 is an investigation of both 47's uniqueness and the way in which he's just another face in the crowd.

In the end, what makes Hitman such a triumph is that it is genuinely a game to be played with rather than a project for the player to complete. You could spend dozens of hours messing with each of its self-contained worlds, but you’ll also get something out of it even if you only have a handful of hours to spare.

More Hitman: Season 2 than an experience in its own right, but a couple of great maps plus a fun competitive mode make for a solid fan pick.
