Das XG850 Plus Platinum von Cooler Master liefert in fast allen Segmenten unseres Tests sehr gute Resultate und selbst dort wo diese nicht ganz so optimal ausfallen sind sie immer noch im guten Bereich. Einen Patzer leistet sich das Modell in überhaupt keinem Test. Besonders auffällig sind die gute Effizienz, inklusive RGB-Beleuchtung, und die exzellente Spannungsregulation auf der 12V Schiene. Auch sehr positiv sind die Erfüllung der neusten Energiesparrichtlinien und die sehr zurückhaltende Lüftersteuerung, die wirklich nur wenn nötig die Drehzahl steigert. Mit 720 UPM ist das Netzteil dabei auch recht angenehm von der Geräuschkulisse. Dank der netten Beleuchtung inklusive Seitendisplay ist das Netzteil sicherlich auch für die RGB-Liebhaber interessant.

The XG850 Plus Platinum is the first PSU from Cooler Master using its platform, and I expect to see more in the future. It isn’t perfect, but this is their first attempt, so I should cut them some slack. It could easily gain much more attention with higher overall performance and a lower price. The PSU performs fine in areas that matter the most, such as load regulation, ripple suppression, noise output, and transient response at 12V. The lack of a 12VHPWR connector might trouble some of you, but for the moment, you won’t run into any compatibility issues since NVIDIA made clear that its upcoming GPUs won’t require ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 ready PSUs to operate. This is good news for all of you having previous generation PSUs or wanting to buy one that isn’t ATX 3.0 compatible to save some money. If you can get an ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 ready PSU, though, I would strongly advise you to do so to be future-proof. Because the current generation GPUs might not require them, you cannot know what will be the case in the next generations, and usually, PSUs outlive several GPU generations.

The Cooler Master XG Plus Platinum has been developed, according to the firm, entirely in-house, essentially marking a new era for the revered PC power & cooling company. Very few companies can boast having power platforms that only they produce – even when counting those who form exclusivity contracts with OEMs. Although no company can stray too far away from the recommended design guide when it comes to PC PSUs, Cooler Master has made some interesting design choices.

The Cooler Master XG850 Plus Platinum Power Supply is a power supply ready for action and the RGB is well done. The informative display readout is an outstanding feature to have on a power supply. With this being the first go at a power supply, Cooler Master has set the bar high!
