ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme (AMD AM4)

Spätzünder gibt es in vielen Bereichen und damit auch in der IT-Branche. Das Warten auf das ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme war ziemlich langwierig, doch nun ist es endlich erhältlich. Es ist Teil der X570S-Mainboards und bietet demnach eine passive PCH-Kühlung. Wir haben die absolute Luxus-Platine für AMDs AM4-Prozessoren untersucht.

ASUS has gone all out in creating a product that deserves recognition. This is not to say it is flawless, but it is unquestionably in the upper stratosphere. Reviewing a premium motherboard inherently includes a certain amount of frustration during the writing phase. A product with a lack of issues leaves little to discuss. Since AMD CPUs have limited overclocking potential and memory support doesn't have to be "extreme" either as far hardware performance goes, everything can be achieved with any of ASUS's Crosshair motherboards, like the Impact, Formula or Hero, without a noticeable difference after optimizing and being configured correctly.

If you are looking for the ultimate X570 motherboard this is it. Looking at the slew of features there really is nothing missing from this motherboard. You have the 18+2 power phase design with 45 amp MicroFine alloy chokes, and 10K premium capacitors, giving you up to 1620 amps of available power. This is the most I’ve seen on a motherboard before! This board is easily going to be able to handle the most high-end AMD processors including the Ryzen 9 5950X. We were easily able to overclock our Ryzen 9 5900X to 4.6 GHz on all 12 cores.

So yes, an 800 USD motherboard is not faster than a 200 USD one, however it's all about features. What a stunningly beautiful motherboard, eh? The VIII Extreme has a sleek, high-end appearance, and it fits sweetly into this category. It's a beast of a creature, and then some. ASUS employed only high-quality components in this build and continued to add features such as 2.5 and 10 Gigabit connectors and a pretty sweet WIFI6E (AX) network solution. By the way, our AC wifi test results were good, not perfect, with a throughput of ~600 Mbit/s on a single link. It's a good achievement though. It is exactly the same with the threefold of M2 slots, which are, by the way, appropriately cooled and then the extra 2 through the DIMM2 slot. I truly adore this motherboard just for the looks and features. However, prices do pose a massive issue. Currently this board is listed at 800 EUR with roughly similar prices in USD, OMG.

One of the things we've mentioned a lot in recent years is how consistent hardware manufacturers have become in ensuring that, with some natural exceptions, it almost doesn't matter which model you choose in performance terms as they're all the same. The differences are very much about the feature set instead. The extras. Once upon a time companies with that weren't so performance orientated instead offered you a plentiful choice of features to make up for that performance whilst the ROG and similar high-end products were all about squeezing every last ounce of performance from your hardware.
